Sakarya University is considered one of the most famous public universities in Turkey. It was founded in 1970 as an engineering and architectural institute in the city of Sakarya, which is an hour and a half away by bus from Istanbul.

In 1971, it was transformed from an engineering and architectural institute into a large engineering and architectural academy supported by the government, and in 1992 it was transformed into an official university.

Sakarya University is located in Sakarya Province, northwestern Türkiye. Sakarya University is one of the few public universities that was founded in the 1990s. It was able to develop its administrative units and academic and technical infrastructure at a tremendous speed, and within a short period it was able to obtain the ISO-2002 quality certificate and the distinguished competency level certificate known as EFQM.
